My father was a wise man. When I was younger I was aggravated by something not working out the way I was convinced it needed to, despite my best efforts at the time. My dad, while filling his pipe with tobacco, asked me if I had prayed about it. I told him I had and that God hadn’t answered my prayers…yet.
Dad paused to light his pipe and drew a few thoughtful inhalations. He turned to me with his gentle, understanding eyes locked to mine and said, with his classic kindness: “you know that “no” is an answer too?”
Although ‘no’ was not the answer I desired at the time, it was a relief to hear. I could stop trying so hard. I could let go. I could accept the ‘no’ and move on, change course, put my energy elsewhere.
God is always listening. He has thought about you personally from all eternity. He hears you. He sees you. Whatever happens in your life is foreseen, planned and permitted by Him.
We have limited intelligence and understanding. He does not. When it comes to Our Heavenly Father, we can unquestionably accept that our Father knows best. His plan for us and our lives takes into account our truest and most lasting welfare, not just that which our limited minds can foresee. When He answers no, it is because what we are seeking is not for our best.
Is God perhaps answering ‘no’ to a prayer you have? Do you need to trust the unseen answer?
If our efforts continue to fail, if we have prayed and done our best and the outcome we are asking for is not unfolding, perhaps it is wise to consider that He is saying “no, sweet child”.
Heavenly Father, grant me the wisdom of preferring Your holy Will in all things. Assist me in removing myself as a hindrance to Your beautiful Will. Help me to do my best and leave the rest to You. Help me to surrender and accept Your no, so that You may do with me as You see fit.
Thank you for this!
